eclipse eclipse's answer (#1 of 1)        1 0

Basic rules:

1. Bow to the Sensei's picture or in front of the dojo before entering and when leaving.

2. Obviously ... no shoes are allowed on the mat.

3. If you arrive late wait for the sensei's permission before joining the class (sit quietly off to the site until you get permission).

4. Do not wear a watch or jewelery during practice.

5. Do not sit with your legs stretched out. Sit with your legs under you or crossed.

6. Try not to turn your back to the sensei especially when he is speaking.

7. Keep well groomed including short finger nails.

8. Act with humility and respect.

9. Keep your uniform neat and clean.

10. Keep conversation during class to a minimum and never talk when the sensei is talking.

The rest is common sense. Watch how the other students act and do the same.

Aikiko was invented by Morihei Ueshiba and is heavily influenced by Jujitsu and Kenjutsu.

Aikido places great importance on fluidity of movement and using an opponents force against them.

There are various schools of Aikido such as Aiki-Budo, Yoseikan, Yoshinkan, Aikikai and Iwama-ryu.
