Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots In Kyoto

Cherry blossoms were planted in Kyoto for Japanese nobility at the start of the Heian era (794). Today, Kyoto remains one of the best places in Japan to do hanami (cherry blossom viewing).

The following spots are some of our favorites:

Philosopher's Trail (between Nanzen-ji and Ginkaku-ji)

Arashiyama (a Mountain area about 40 minutes from downtown on the outskirts of Kyoto with many temples and shrines)

Okazaki Canal (near Heian Shrine)

Daigoji Temple

Ninnaji Temple

Kiyomizudera Temple
