Hiroshima is known as the first city in the World to be subject to a nuclear attack. The August 6, 1945 attack eventually claimed the lives of 140,000 people.
On September 17th 1945, a little over a month after the nuclear attack, Hiroshima was hit by one of the largest typhoons ever to strike Japan and an additional 3000 people were killed.
Today, Hiroshima is a thriving city again and city of government of Hiroshima have been active promoters of world peace and nuclear disarmament. Hiroshima has been the site of numerous conferences about world peace and various global issues.
