Japanese Architecture

Traditionally, Japanese Architecture (日本建築) has been influenced by Chinese and Buddhist Architecture. Modern Japanese Architecture has also been influenced by Western Architecture. Despite these ever changing influences Japanese architecture has uniquely Japanese elements and style.

The oldest structures still standing in Japan are found at Hōryūji in Nara. They were built in the Asuka period (the oldest is 7th century).
