Japanese cartoons are increasingly popular in asia and the west for their original style and imaginative characters and storylines. In recent, years Anime has become an English word referring to the Japanese style of cartoon.

Cosplay

Cosplay (コスプレ) is a Japanese abbreviation of "Costume Play" which has become a part of the English language. Cosplay is a popular subculture of wearing costumes which are based upon video games, manga, anime, films or fictional characters.

Cosplay is heavily influenced by Japanese culture such as manga and anime but is popular in many countries throughout the world. In fact, the largest Cosplay conventions (or "cons") are in the United States and Europe.

Harajuku (a neighbourhood in Tokyo) has become famous for Cosplay in the West.
