Origami

Origami sprang from the ancient Chinese art of paper folding around the 6th century. Little is known about Origami's early development. It seems that early Origami was used for practical purposes such as folding letters.

Origami really blossomed during the Edo period when mass production of paper made paper widely available and inexpensive. Edo period books were published about Origami techniques and Origami began to take the shape of animals and objects such as boats and cranes.
