New Caledonia Introduction
New Caledonia has some of the most beautiful islands in the South Pacific and the world. New Caledonia's culture is a great mix of french sophistication and South Pacific charm.
Many guide books claim that Nouvea (the capital city) is the Paris of the South Pacific. While New Caledonia is more developed then neighbours such as Fiji and Vanuatu it is no Paris. But if you are looking for urban chic what are you doing in the middle of the south pacific :).
Nouvea looks a little dangerous at night and is not the best place in the world for shopping. But the food is good and there are a great selection of wines at most restaurants. However, generally Nouvea is not the most interesting attraction in New Caledonia.
The islands such as the Loyalty Islands of Lifou, Maré and Ouvéa are the place to be. They are rural and beautiful. You can have a long stretch of perfect beach practically to yourself. The locals are friendly and the sky is a deep blue that is hard to believe.
