Breakdancing is hard to define but has a distinct style, attitude and flavor. It often includes moves such as spinning, up rocks and down rocks, footwork, power moves, suicides, and freeze. It draws inspiration from many sources such as hip hop, marshal arts, gymnastics, jazz, soul, electronic music etc.. It tends to be a three dimensional dance in which dancers may hang in the air or spend as much time on their head and hands as on their feet.

Breakdancing got really popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s and attracted lots of posers. After the fad faded many hard-core enthusiasts remained and breakdancing continued as a thriving subculture that has spread around the world.
