Japanese Magazines




There are more than 3 thousand magazines currently publishing in Japan in categories such as fashion, gossip, news, hobbies, special interest, manga (Japanese comics), video games, pornography and business. About 70% of magazines are monthly and the total circulation of all monthly magazines in Japan is over 3 billion copies a month. In addition to purchased copies, many magazines are read by customers of book stores and convenience stores without purchase. Convenience stores are everywhere in Japan and there are invariably a crowd of customers around the magazine section having a free read.

The Japanese magazine business is quite competitive and every year about 100 magazines go under while 100 to 200 new magazines are launched.
