Impressions

Shinjuku is like many other Tokyo neighbourhoods but on a larger scale. Shinjuku is one of the biggest and busiest neighbourhoods in Tokyo. It has a great deal of shopping, entertainment, night life, dining. It also has perhaps the most famous red light district in Japan .. Kabukicho. |
Details
| |
Shinjuku has many faces:
1. Around south JR exit there are lots of large department stores. Good shopping and quite a few restaurants.
2. Around the west exit there are many skyscrapers including Tokyo city hall and many large international hotels.
3. The east exit is the location of the famous red light district kabukicho. It also has a lot of dining and night life. |
Advice

Kabukicho can be a little dangerous although might still be safer then many US cities. If you are a man ignore the scouts that may try to take you in strip bars etc... this is often a scam. Although I never personally tried that.
Normal people go to Shinjuku. Don't worry about the red light district. There are many, many legitimate businesses in the area. It is a great place to shop, wine and dine. |
