Osaka is a really large Japanese city with a lot of history, great shopping and eating. Osaka people are really friendly and outgoing ... not shy like in Tokyo.

Details

Osaka is Japan's 2nd largest city, but Osaka residents think it is number one. It forms the centre of the Kansai region of Japan and is one the country's major ports.

It is also the centre of the Yakuza, Japan's notorious but low-key mafia. Nearby are a host of cities that figure prominently in Japan's history including Kyoto, Kobe and Nara.

Advice

Osaka castle is not that impressive. Remember it is a reconstruction and was only built in 1959. Top places to visit:

1. Go to MINO PARK in the city of Mino in Osaka to hike & see wild monkeys. The best time to go is in the autumn when the leaves are turning color.

2. Osaka Aquarium
3. Tempozan Harbor Village
4. Universal studio
5. Dotombori
6. Umeda Sky Building
