I have stayed in Marunouchi for business on numerous occations. The area is primarily a business district but there is also good shopping and quite a few restaurants. It is a popular area for japanese salary men who go for drinks after a long day at the office.

Marunouchi is situated between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. It is close to another prestigious business district: Otemachi. Marunouchi has the headquarters of many largy Japanese companies including many large banks.
Marunouchi is not the most exciting neighbourhood in Tokyo and is quite quiet on weekends. It is really a typical business district. It is convinient if you are taking a shinkansen because it is located at tokyo station.
There are shopping and dining complexes around Tokyo Station. The main attractions are the recently opened Marubiru and Marunouchi Oazo.

Expensive place to stay if you are a tourist there are better options. But ideally situated for business and taking shinkansen day trips.
