Shinsekai used to be a tourist mecca many years ago but now it is run down. Many people are scared to go into the area .... this might be a good idea late at night ... there are homeless looking people around sometimes. But essentially I like this neighbourhood. It has a kitchy flavour to it as you can see from the photos.

Details

Tsutenkaku Tower (600 yen to the top) provides a good view of Osaka. Shinsekai has a few fugu (blowfish) and kushi katsu restaurants. Kushi katsu restaurants are often crowded and offer meats, fish, and vegetables which are breaded and deep fried (100 yen each). Shinsekai is close to Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and Tennoji Zoo.

Advice

Nice place to walk around and take a few pictures during the day. Grab a Kushi katsu snack while your there. Be careful here at night.
