Details

Nipponbashi (日本橋) is a shopping district of Naniwa Ward in Osaka. The area is just north from JR Shin-Imamiya Station on Sakaisuji Street. It is also close to the Namba shopping district. A very old neighbourhood that has been a shopping district since the edo period. After world war II it became focused on electronics and thus the name "Den Den" (denki is the japanese world for electronics).

Advice

Unlike Akihabara you can negotiate prices here (this is very uncommon in japan). Remember to negotiate! Many stores are also tax and duty free. There is a 5% consumption tax in japan that foreign shoppers can avoid. For you otaku out there ... Den Den Town is probably the best area for anime, manga and related products. There seem to be 100s of otaku shops ... but I never checked them out ... and frankly know nothing about manga.
