The governemnt noticed that the Hiroshima station had gone off the air. About twenty minutes after that people started to realize that the Hiroshima telegraph had stopped working.
Finally, reports started coming in from trains in the countryside close to Hiroshima that something had gone very wrong in Hiroshima.
The Military tried to call the Military base in Hiroshima but there was no reply.
A young officer was commanded to fly immediately to Hiroshima, and report back to Tokyo.
The military still believed that reports of a huge explosion were just a rumour.
The officer tryed to fly to Hiroshima and saw the mushroom cloud as he approached the city.
Japan still did not really know what had happened until the White House announced the bombing sixteen hours after the nuclear attack on Hiroshima.
