Is "Thousand Island" salad dressing named after the Thousand Islands near Kingston?

Kind of probably

I am not sure anyone knows for sure but:

Sophia LaLonde invented it at Chicago's Blackstone Hotel in the early twentieth century (based on a Russian dressing).
The dressing was popularized by the hotel's guest (actress May Irwin) who named the dressing after the Thousand Islands region of upstate New York and Eastern Ontario near Kingston.
