Well, first off many Japanese young people say it is boring haha.

From time to time matches many have been fixed. There is a great deal of money involved in matches and there have been frequent acusations of cheating.

Sumo wrestlers engage in hazing as a regular part of their training. In 2008 a young sumo wrestler named Takashi Saito was killed by members of his stable after trying to escape from extreme hazing.

The professional sumo league limits the numbers of foreigners that can participate .. even though foreigners are often the most skilled wrestlers.

Sumo training is very bad for the body as it requires a very high fat diet. Sumo wrestlers live 10 years less on average then the average Japanese male.
