In Japan does a family share the same bath water? How does that work?

Yes, one family may share a bath in the morning. But to be clear they have a shower and are clean before they enter the bath. Japanese baths are for soaking in hot water and not for getting clean. The family bath is also typically bigger then in most other countries.

Yes, its very environmental. There is a plastic mat put on top of the tub to keep the water hot.
