In Tokyo there is a noticable earthquake about once a month I guess. There is something like a 90% chance of a huge one that will destroy the city in the next 50 years.

20% of all earthquakes in the world over magnitude 5 happen in Japan. They are very common. Especially in Kanto (greater Tokyo).

There is a website in Japanese that shows all the earthquakes in Japan. There seems to be more than one an hour on average.
