Japanese slang "otaku" means someone who is a die-hard fan of something. For example a particular theme, topic, or hobby.

Some examples of this are:

- anime otaku (anime fan)
- manga otaku (a fan of Japanese books or manga)
- pasokon otaku (personal computer geeks)
- gēmu otaku (playing video games)
- wota (that are extreme fans of idols)
- tetsudō otaku (train geeks)
- gunji otaku (military geeks)
